C.S Peirce considered the abduction as one the three inferences, which along with deduction and induction, are required to obtain scientific knowledge. This article aims to establish the evolution of the concept to abduction, its logic and its psychology, and the criticisms made by R.N. Hanson to this concept and to the Aristotelian apagogé.
