Resumen

GARCIA-ENCINAS, M.J. Personal identity and responsibility. EPISTEME [online]. 2011, vol.31, n.2, pp.1-24. ISSN 0798-4324.

This paper argues that an action is an event that essentially conveys agent responsibility. Any action is the event that is someone’s doing. An agent responsibility, which defines action, is the kind of responsibility that justifies both reward and punishment. This means that an action is, in all cases, revocable and socially sanctioned, such as it is the type of responsibility that defines action. Moreover, if personal identity is to be understood within the frame of action, narrative kind of theories are in a much better position to do the understanding job rather than mentalist approaches.

Palabras clave : action; responsibility; personal identity.
