Resumen

VELAZQUEZ R, Miguel E. Philosophy, science and rationality: practical and foundational considerations. EPISTEME [online]. 2016, vol.36, n.1, pp.41-60. ISSN 0798-4324.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the role of fallibility in scientific and philosophical thought according to Habermas and Popper’s views. Firstly, some considerations made by Habermas about fallibility as a fundamental feature of philosophical and scientific thinking are reviewed. Secondly, Popper’s view about the role of conjecture in science, mainly explored in his late works, is considered. Thirdly, moral consequences about scientific speculation are analyzed. Finally, Popper’s arguments against moral relativism, as well as the reasons that support his vision of tolerance, are considered.

Palabras clave : Science; fallibility; conjecture.
