Summary A study of the gillnet selectivity on the curvinata of river, Plagioscion squamosissimus, was made in the region of the Half Orinoco, being in the main channel, a good size of capture of 43.5 cm of total longitude for nets of 10 cm of mesh light and of 30.4 cm of total longitude for nets of 7 cm of mesh light, while in a flood lagoon these good sizes of capture for nets of 10 cm of mesh light it was of 35.2 cm of total longitude and 24.6 cm of total longitude for nets of 7 cm of mesh light. Taking into account the size of first maturity of P. squamosissimus in the region, the use of nets of gillnets of 10 cm or more than mesh light, it doesn't constitute danger some for the capture of immature fish, on the contrary of the use of nets of 7 cm of mesh light
