MARQUEZ¹, Angíe  y  PAREDES, Luis. Use of the Ecoanalysis-DP in an intensive production system of milk in the zone Humocaro in the Lara state, Venezuela. Zootecnia Trop. [online]. 2004, vol.22, n.2, pp.209-219. ISSN 0798-7269.

The present work was carried out to analyze economically and the sensibility of an intensive production system of milk, located in the Humocaro, in the Lara state, Venezuela. The farm is settle on 230 ha. The flock is conformed by 1056 animals, were 507 are reproductive cows. The 45, 20 and 15% of them are Holstein, Jersey and Carora, respectively, and the rest is a racially mixed group among Holstein, Jersey and Carora. Two daily milking take place in the farm, and the yearling calves grow up on whole milk, the calf is weaning once reach 70 kg liveweight. Supplementation is offered according to the productive level of the cows. For the economic analysis, it was considered the period January-December 2002. Data was analyzed using the Ecoanálisis-DP methodology and the sensitivity analysis by means of the use of the variable parturition interval (PI). Regarding to the working capital, the costs of feeding, supplements and mineral salts, represent about 87.1%. The analysis revealed an annual return of capital of 22.7% and one yield of 7.1%. The cost of a liter of milk needed to cover the total production costs was established be 411.20 Bs. The sensitivity of the production system indicate that diminishing a day in the PI is needed to gain 5,537 Bs/cow/d. The obtained benefit was considered to be satisfactory for the conditions of the present study, in spite of the high costs of the working capital, manual labor and services to operate plus the high cost of the land. The Ecoanálisis-DP was shown be a methodology for the economic evaluation, fast, simple and flexible, and its combination with studies of technological functionality allows to make improvement plans to enable evaluations on the efficiency of the productive system.
