MANRIQUE, Antonio e EGEA SOARES, Ademilson. Relación entre la producción de propóleos y la tasa de infestación de varroas (Varroa destructor) en abejas africanizadas (Apis mellifera) en Brasil. Zootecnia Trop. [online]. 2004, vol.22, n.3, pp.289-298. ISSN 0798-7269.
In order to evaluate to relation between the propolis production and the infestation rate of varroas (Varroa destructor), from April to September 2003, nine producing colonies of propolis (CP) and 10 no producing of propolis (NP) were selected, at apiarians of America fram, Luiz Antonio Municipality, São Paulo State, Brazil. The collected data were analyzed with the Tukey test. The average of propolis was 68.70 g/colonies. Differences (P<0.05) were found in the varroas infestation rate between the CP (3.53%) and the NP (2.28%) colonies. Also significant differences were found when compared month to month, with values of 5.77%, 5.03%, 2.43%, 1.62%, 1.54%, and 1.04%, for September, August, July, June, April, and May, respectively. The results showed a higher rate of infestation when the propolis production increased and a higher food supply.
