BASTARDO, Asmine e DIAZ BARBERAN, Rosario. Hematological parameters in farmed paguara, Chaetodipterus faber (Broussonet) (Pisces: Ephippidae). Zootecnia Trop. [online]. 2004, vol.22, n.4, pp.361-370. ISSN 0798-7269.
The hematological parameters, hematocrit (Hct), hemoglobin (Hb), blood cell count (RBCC), white blood cell count (WBCC), mean cell volume (MCV), mean cell hemoglobin (MCH), and mean cell hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) were established for the marine fish Chaetodipterus faber. The microhematocrit, cyanomethahaemoclobin, and Neubauer coulter methods were used. The hematological range for were: Hct: 15-31%, Hb: 5.26-9.27 g/100 dl, RBCC: 1.7-2.4 x 106/mm3, WBCC: 2.03-4.7 x 104/mm3, MCV: 88.23-126.09 fl, MCH: 30.44-41.63 pg y MCHC: 26.67-39.95%. These data are considered as normal ranges in this species in healthy farmed fishes in Venezuela. The value for each hematological parameter showed significantly sex differences with higher values in males. Variation of the hematological parameters to environment changes or physiological status of fishes is discussed.
