GARCIA DE HERNANDEZ, edes; SANCHEZ, Cecilia; MARIN, Carlos  e  CARUCI, Pastor. Supplementation with poultry litter on lactating cows during the rainy period. Zootecnia Trop. [online]. 2006, vol.24, n.1, pp.31-42. ISSN 0798-7269.

With the objective of evaluate the effect of supplementation of poultry litter on lactating cows during rainy period were assigned twelve dual-purpose cows of three and four lactation to two treatments in a completely randomized design (6 cows/treatment). T1: grazing and T2: grazing + supplementation (60% poultry litter + 29 % sorghum meal + 10 % molasses + 1 % minerals). The cows had an adaptation period to the diet during 14 days, following 14 days of continuous measurements of milk production and consumption. The stargrass (Cynodon nlemfuensis) showed a dry matter (DM) yield of 1267.3 kg/ha. The supplement had 12.8% of CP and 2.14 Mcal ME/kg. It was offered 1 kg/an/d of supplement after milking, with an average consumption of 0.451 kg/an/d. The initial milk production average of T1 and T2 was 5.230 ± 1.740 and 4.050 ± 1.910 kg/an/d., respectively. The final milk production average of T1 and T2 was 4.290 ± 1.810 and 3.760 ± 1.340 kg/an/d, respectively, without significant difference between treatments; with a covariable initial milk production highly significant (P<0.01). The numerical decrease of average milk production was higher in the control group (0.940 kg/an/d) with higher economical losses with respect to the supplemented one (0.290 kg/an/d).
