The effect of the size of the microalgae Chaetoceros muelleri and Tetraselmis suecica on the ingestion rate of larvae of Artemia franciscana was evaluated. From the beginning of the experiment significant differences were observed (P<0.05) at all stages of development among the treatments. In all stages of the larvae there was observed an increase in the rate of ingestion relative to the concentration of C. muelleri. In the transition stage from metanauplii IV to postmetanauplii II, A. franciscana  managed to ingest 3.5 times more diatom than the phytoflagelate algae; behavior that disappeared at the end of the postmetanauplii IV  stage when they have in a equal relationship of 1 to 1.
