ALFARO, Coromoto et al. Epidemiology of bovine leptospirosis in dual purpose bovine systems in Monagas state. I. Locations and management. Zootecnia Trop. [online]. 2007, vol.25, n.3, pp.189-192. ISSN 0798-7269.
ABSTRACT In order to evaluate the serologic prevalence of the bovine leptospirosis and its possible relationship with management factors of the dual purpose bovine systems, a descriptive study was carried out in several locations of La Pica Parrish, at northeast of Maturín Municipality. An epidemic survey was applied to 23 representative units of the dual purpose system which allowed the characterization of the systems. Sampling was ramdom stratified and consisted of 469 paired samples of sanguine serum, analyzed by the microscopic agglutination technique with live antigens (MAT), for eight serovares of leptospira. The analysis of the data was made using the tests of Z for the comparison of proportions and Chi squared to determine the causal association between for the different variables and the disease. The results showed significant differences related with the presence of the disease among locations (P<0.05), production systems (P<0.05) and population density (P<0.01). It was concluded that presence of bovine leptospirosis differ with the locations and was associated to management factors of the production systems
