ALFARO, Coromoto et al. Epidemiology of leptospirosis in dual purpose bovine systems in Monagas state. II: Climatic factors. Zootecnia Trop. [online]. 2007, vol.25, n.3, pp.193-196. ISSN 0798-7269.
ABSTRACT It was evaluated the serologic prevalence of the bovine leptospirosis associated with climatic factors in double purpose farms located in the low savannas, at northeast of Maturín Municipality, Monagas. An epidemic survey was applied to 23 representative units of the dual purpose system which allowed the characterization of their properties. The stratified random animal sampling included 469 paired samples of sanguine serum, which were analyzed by the aglutination microscopic technique with live antigens (MAT) for the diagnosis of leptospirosis. The results showed significant differences (P<0.05) related with reactors rates in different periods the year: may-july (50.9%) and october-december (43.9%). Also, the seroprevalence was higher in farms located in zones with precipitations higher than 100 mm/month, with temperature higher than 20°C, and relative humidity higher than 75,5%. It is concluded that climatic factors influenced presence of the disease, especially precipitation
