APARICIO, Rafael et al. Degradability of lambedora (Leersia hexandra) and paja de agua (Hymenachne amplexicaulis) grasses in four seasons of the year in a flooding savanna of Apure state, Venezuela. Zootecnia Trop. [online]. 2007, vol.25, n.3, pp.225-228. ISSN 0798-7269.
ABSTRACT It was determined the degradability of the dry matter (DMD, g/kg. MS) of mixtures of the pastures Leersia hexandra and Hymenachne amplexicaulis taken in four seasons of the year: Drought, TSLL (transition drought - rainy), Rainy, and TLLS (transition rainy - drought) on flooding savannas of Apure state, by using the in vitro gas production technique. After 24 h of incubation there were differences in the accumulated gas production in all seasons, with the highest gas production (mL/g DM) at 96 h for the rainy (142.8) and TSLL (128,2) seasons in comparisons with the dry (106.9) and TLLS (105.5) seasons. The DMD at 96 h was significantly different in the TSLL (52.3) and rainy (50.5) seasons in comparison to the drought (38.9) and TLLS (40.5) seasons. In these two species it was observed that the rate of digestion exceeded 50% in the TSLL and rainy seasons, principally due to the new shoots, while in the TLLS and drought was below the limits
