Abstract

MIRANDA, Taymer et al. Economic valuation of environmental goods and services in two ecosystems of cattle use. Zootecnia Trop. [online]. 2008, vol.26, n.3, pp.187-189. ISSN 0798-7269.

This work presents the comparative results of two farms: one with a natural pastureland, and the other converted into a silvopastoril system (SPS), the latter with 11 years of exploitation. In the SPS a value of stored carbon was estimated, which was higher in all the strata studied (126 t of carbon) with regards to the system of natural pasture, as well as a six times lower cost for weed control, ascribable to biodiversity. These values propitiated that the SPS reached an additional economic benefit of 946 US $/ha/year, as compared to the system of natural pasture. Such analysis allowed proving the economic importance of the management of natural resources in one system or another, which constituted the main objective of this work.

Keywords : Ecosystems; environmental services; economic assessment; sequestered carbon.
