Abstract

FONTES, Dayami et al. Teramnus labialis: promissory legume for the diversified production in citric farms. Zootecnia Trop. [online]. 2008, vol.26, n.3, pp.351-354. ISSN 0798-7269.

In this work we determined the effect of the covering of Teremnus labialis on some physical, chemical, and biological properties of the soil, the citric tree, and the quality of the fruits, comparing them with those obtained in cultures with natural covering and without protection. Values of organic matter, pH, and available phosphorus were higher for the first alternative. Similarly, the contents of humidity, total specific volume of pores and air, the coefficient of structure, and the percentage of water stable aggregates in the soil were higher with the covering of T. labialis. These benefits explain the significant increments in the production of these fruit-bearing, without affectations in the indexes of quality of its juice. We conclude that the introduction of leguminous in the covering constitutes an effective alternative for the management of citric ecosystems because these plants improve the biological, chemical and physical properties of the soil without affect the nutrition of citric trees and the quality of their fruits.
