Abstract
HERNANDEZ H, Jorge E et al. Identification and preference of arboreal-shrub species and parts consumed by the goat livestock in the Mixteca Poblana, Tehuaxtla and Maninalcingo, México. Zootecnia Trop. [online]. 2008, vol.26, n.3, pp.379-382. ISSN 0798-7269.
México has a great diversity of plants of the type arboreal-shrub that becomes a true source of fodder consumed by goat livestock; such it is the case in the communities of Tehuaxtla and Maninalcingo of the Mixteca Poblana. The present work allowed the identification and preference for these arboreal-shrub species in 15 goat family production units. There were found 40 species with fodder potential, that were concentrated into 15 family taxons of which 32.5% belong to the Mimosoidaes, of the leguminous group. Descriptive statistics and Duncan test, this last was used for for bites and consumed parts of the plant. It was identified the taxonomic family, uses, and plant parts for the most palatable species by the goats through the method of direct observationof the bites given to the plant and their parts. Mainly the animals grazed leaves of Pithecellobium acatlense, Haemotoxylum brasiletto, and Pithecellobium dulce with values of 39.0, 34.2 and 34.2 bites/h, respectively. For the consumed parts, significant differences of 0.0, 9.5 and 39.0 were found for flower, fruit and leaf, respectively, corresponding to the bites given to Pithecellobium acatlense. In 8 evaluated species of the arboreal-shrub strata, producers granted a qualification average of 9.5 as value fodder to Pithecellobium acatlense, when applied a survey about the species and their parts most consumed by their goats.
