Resumen
QUIJADA P, Jessica et al. Prevalence, distribution, and abundance of digestive strongyle eggs and oocysts of Eimeria spp. in naturally infected caprines reared under pen conditions. Zootecnia Trop. [online]. 2008, vol.26, n.4, pp.475-480. ISSN 0798-7269.
Gastrointestinal parasitism is an important goat production limiting, them causes severe alteration that produces: diarrhea, weight losses, low production and death. Major etiology of those infections are: digestive strongyles (Nematoda: Strongylida) and genus Eimeria coccidian (Protozoa: Eucoccidiida). In order to asses prevalence, distribution and abundance values in a under pen rearing management system goat herd, were evaluated a total of 79 goats (both sex), using the coprological McMaster technique. The herd was set out into three aging groups (£year-old; 1-3 year-old; ³ 3 year-old). Were observed high digestive strongyles and Eimeria spp prevalence values (95.83% y 79.17%, respectively). Digestive strongyles infection prevalence and abundance values were high, independently neither goat sex nor age (P>0.05). There were found statistical differences between Eimeria spp oocyst prevalence and parasitic burden values by goat age (P<0.05). The aggregation coefficient K values were lower than 1 (0.00002 - 0.0007), showing a dispersion level of strongyles eggs and Eimeria spp oocysts in evaluated animal feces. The high aggregation (K<3) have relation with only several high parasitic burden animals observed (41.77% to digestive strongyles and 25.33% to Eimeria spp), highest marked inside each age group, pointing an individual susceptibility of each host inside herd cause shown a heterogeneity effect.
