Resumen

ALVAREZ, Ramón; BERTSCH, Annalisse  y  COELLO, Nereida. True digestibility of feather flour fermented by Kocuria rosea in adult roosters. Zootecnia Trop. [online]. 2009, vol.27, n.1, pp.001-006. ISSN 0798-7269.

Dry matter (DM), crude protein, ash, and ethereous extract true digestibility of feathers flour fermented by Kocuria rosea (FFM) and commercial (CFM) were compared in adult roosters by means of a balance test. It was used a completely randomized design, with 10 birds by treatment and 10 additional for the evaluations of endogenous. As for the results, DM levels of the FFM are significantly higher and more digestible with regard to the CFM. The product fermented principally contains protein (67%) whose digestibility is superior to 85% and equivalently to that of the commercial flour. Though it contains 45% less fat, it was digested more (P<0.01) than the present in the CFM. Opposite case happens with the minerals, but though the digestibility is lower (P<0.01) in the FFM, the levels of these almost quadruple to the contents in the FFC. Results confirm that the fermented feathers flour by Kocuria, beside being principally an alternative source of protein for the birds, can be also nutritionally better taken advantage by these animals that the commercial one.
