A research was conducted with records from a farm located in Guárico state, Venezuela, in order to establish the survival curves to weaning in a buffalo herd located in well drained savannas. Records of birth, mortality, and sales (n=1198) were used from 1993 to 2004. The effect of calving season (CS), sex, and breed (B) were included to obtain the survival curves of Kaplan-Meier, and the Log-rank and Wilcoxon test were used to compare within effects. The results indicated a mortality of 1.75% the first five days after calving, 4.93% until 30 days of age, and 6.26% until 60 days, with 10.1%, of mortality from calving to weaning, being 59.4% higher in Murrah breed compared to Mediterranean breed, and 147.7% higher in males, without differences between calving seasons.
