Abstract

J. ZAMBRANO, William  and  MARQUES JR, Antônio P. Metabolic profile of crossbreed milking cows from calving to the fifth month of lactation. Zootecnia Trop. [online]. 2009, vol.27, n.4, pp.475-488. ISSN 0798-7269.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the metabolic profile in crossbreed milking cows (Girolando) under traditional management and the relationship with clinic, reproductive and productive problems. Parameters evaluated include blood and milk metabolic profile, reproductive status, body condition score and body weight at 22 days before calving and on days 17, 37, 54, 78, 110, 130 and 153 postpartum. The mean values ± SD for total protein, albumin and globulin were respectively 72,07±6,12; 28,57±3,31 and 43,50±6,38 g/l, and for triglycerides 18,39±4,26 mg/dl, serum urea 4,23±1,00 mmol/l and in milk urea 4,19±0,78 mmol/l, hemoglobin 10,53±0,80 g/dl, packed cell volume 31,90±2,38 %, beta-hydroxybutyrate 0,48±0,13 mmol/l, progesterone 0,94±2,66 ng/dl, free tiroxin 5,37±1,69 pmol/l, body condition score 3,28±0,35 and body weight 418,78±41,20 kg. No difference was found for ketone bodies in milk. In conclusion, the metabolic profile in crossbreed milking cows was different before and after calving, and could be recommended this evaluation as a useful tool to detect clinical and productive restraints in this type of animals
