HURTADO NERY, Víctor Libardo; RIBEIRO NOBRE SOARES, Rita da Trindade y CHIQUIERI, Julien. Performance and carcass characteristics of finishing swine fed diets with rice by-products. Zootecnia Trop. [online]. 2010, vol.28, n.1, pp.46-49. ISSN 0798-7269.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of replacing corn for broken rice and whole bran rice on the performance and carcass characteristics in the finishing swine phase. 40 swine of 18 weeks age and 67,07 ± 4,49 kg of weight were used allotted in a randomized block design. Treatments were 1. Control (Basal diet), 2. Diet with 100% broken rice, 3. Diet with 50% of broken rice, 4. Diet with 100% rice bran, 5. Diet with 50% of rice bran. Food and water were ad libitum. Swine were weighted at the beginning and end of this study, and the experimental phase had 21 days of duration. To replace 100% of corn by bran rice affected weight gain and weight carcass. To replace 100% of corn by broken rice optimal the feed conversion when in comparison with bran rice diets. The rice byproducts had no effect on feed intake, carcass yield, carcass length, loin eye area, ham yield or backfat thickness. In conclusion corn can be replaced 100% by broken rice and 50% by bran rice in diets for swine in the finishing phase
