Abstract

The uses of conserved microorganisms (Babesia sp and Anaplasma sp) are keys in the solution of serious problems generated by veterinary haemotropic parasites of serious concern in Venezuela. Isolated Anaplasma marginale, Babesia bigemina and Babesia bovis cryopreserved in liquid nitrogen at (- 196)°C long splenectomised calves were inoculated with the object of assessing their viability. Results showed high pathogenecity of isolates, with clinical manifestations of fever, anorexia, incoordination (B. bovis) and haemoglobinuria (B. bigemina). The virulence of the hemoparasites measured by the decrease of hematocrit indicated greater severity for isolates of B. bigemina and A. marginale. Cryopreservation of these parasites allows antigen production in quantity and quality for routine analysis of these diseases of veterinarian interest, from the viewpoint parasitological, serological and molecular biology.
