ORTIZ, Briceida et al. Effect of Zeranol implant on feedlot-performance of Dorper x Katahdin lambs. Zootecnia Trop. [online]. 2013, vol.31, n.2, pp.171-176. ISSN 0798-7269.
Twenty four lambs ¾ Dorper x ¼ Katahdin (BW 29,23 ± SE 0,87 kg) were used in a 49 days feedlot trial to determine the effect of implant with Zeranol on feedlot performance of intensive fattening lambs. The lams were placed in elevated crates (0,6 m) in a Complete Randomized Block design and were assigned to treatments as follows: 1) Without implant (Control); and 2) Implant with 12 mg of zeranol (Zeranol). Final weight was similar in both treatments (P>0,25). Zeranol application increased (P=0,06) 20,5% average daily gain (0,329 vs. 0,273 kg/day). Dry matter intake was not affected by treatments (P=0,30). Feed conversion (Dry matter intake/gain) was improved (P=0,02) 17,6% in animals that received Zeranol compared with Control group. These findings suggest that implant application with 12 mg of Zeranol enhance feedlot performance of intensive fattening Dorper x Katahdin lambs.
