Abstract

The effectiveness of a recirculation system of water (SRA) was affefed using an efficient biological filter which requires minimal maintenance generating growth in weight of cachama (Colossoma macropomum) grown in high density planting 15 fish/m3 in three Australian type tanks in the Fish Farming Center of the Orinoco (CPO) located in the Botanical Garden of the Orinoco municipality Heres of Bolívar State. 1676 fi sh were planted in each tank with an initial average weight of 8.3 g. The fish grew at an average rate of 2.67 g.d ia-1 getting in 303 days of cultivation a final average weight of 809.73 g with a survival rate of 92.2%. The rate of feed conversion obtained under the conditions of cultivation was 1.72. The physical and chemical parameters of water were O. D= 4.493 ±1.577 mg. l-1, pH= 7.8 ±0.494, Temperature= 29.56 ±0.949 ºC, Ammonium ionized= 0.370 ±0.268 mg. l-1, Ammonium non-ionized= 0.092 ±0.113 mg. l-1 and Nitrites= 0.632 ±0.444 mg. l-1 which were within the minimum acceptable ranges for the species. The growth of the species responds well to cultivation in circular tanks with water recirculation systems.
