ABAD, Darwin; RINCON, David e POLEO, Germán. Carcass yield índex in red belly pacu Piaractus brachypomus cultivated in a Biofloc system. Zootecnia Trop. [online]. 2014, vol.32, n.2, pp.119-130. ISSN 0798-7269.
The main purpose of this research was to find out the corporal yield index (carcass, viscero somatic, hepato somatic and fishscales) of red belly pacu Piaractus barchypomus cultivated in a biofl oc system. One thousand three hundred juvenile pacu with average size of 10±0,2 cm and weightof 15±3,1 g, were stocked at a density of 17,3 fish/m3 in a circular tank of 15 m3 capacity. The fish were fed to apparent satiation with a commercial feed (28% Crude Protein) for 210 days. One hundred thirty fish were sacrificed in cold water (6-8ºC) and used to calculated carcasse yield. Three weight classes were established (390-439 g; 440-479 g y 480-520 g) and the furca length was measured. After slaughter the weight variables measured were: fresh weight (PF), gutted weight (PC), liver weight (PH) and scales weight (PE). They were also calculated the carcass yield (RC), viscerosomátic index (lVS), liver index (HIS) and scales percentage (RE). Fish got an average length of 24,5±1,3cm and 455,9±28,2 g of average weight and in weight classes. Obtained statistical differences (P < 0.05). Statistical differences (P > 0.05) were not observes in values RC, IVS y RE; in HIS was obtained statistical differences into treatments (P < 0.05). These results showed that fish yield was not affected and the red-belly pacu obtained very growth of culture system used.
