BORGES, Jorge A et al. Functional approach of feeding subsystem in dual purpose farms in the Aroa valley, Yaracuy State, Venezuela. Zootecnia Trop. [online]. 2014, vol.32, n.2, pp.179-184. ISSN 0798-7269.
TThe nutritional management of cattle herds in the country had resulted in a low production behavior of the animal. Under these circumstances, the diagnosis and functional approach to the feeding subsystem in a group of 20 bovine farms located in the Aroa Valley, at Yaracuy state, during the years 2010 and 2011 was raised. Diagnostic information was collected by survey application and observations exploratory on-farm; based on diagnosed needs, a work plan designed and executed, which included training and technical support to producers for a period of 18 months. A significant increase (P ≤ 0,0065) in the adoption of strategic supplementation in herds, reaching 85% at the end of the period approach was achieved . Established practices more relevant (P ≤ 0,05) were: establishment and use of protein banks (30%), development and provision of multinutritional blocks (45%) and mixed silage (30%) from local raw materials, acquisition and use of external inputs such as concentrated feed (80%) and minerals (85%), and the use of citrus pulp (35%) and molasses (40%) like agroindustrial byproducts usable and availability for animal supplementation. Determined that the process of technological approach of feeding subsystem under this methodology was used to start and consolidate food improvement in these cattle production systems.
