ERLICH, Frances D.. Características y efectos del discurso autocentrado en aló presidente. Boletin de Linguistica [online]. 2005, vol.17, n.24, pp.05-10. ISSN 0798-9709.

This investigation aims to describe the effects of President Hugo Chávez’ self-centered discourse in his weekly broadcast program, Aló Presidente. The interpersonal relation with the audience is to a great extent built upon disclosure of aspects which are related to his private life, an unusual communicative activity in presidential public speeches, which in this case fulfills specific ideological and interactive purposes. Chávez’ oral productions are analyzed, taking into account the interactive mechanisms and topics that favor this type of discourse. The data is analyzed according to underlying semantic categories, the sociological concept of face-work, and politeness theory. This research yields evidence of how the discursive activity plays a significant part in the speaker’s attempt to bolster his self-image and in the differentiated relation that he establishes with the social groups that he addresses.

Palavras-chave : self-centered discourse; face; politeness .
