Resumen
CHIRINOS, Adiana y MOLERO DE CABEZA, Lourdes. La imagen del yo y del otro: Construcción de identidades en los discursos de toma de posesión de los presidentes de Venezuela y Brasil. Boletin de Linguistica [online]. 2007, vol.19, n.27, pp.70-93. ISSN 0798-9709.
The objective of this study is to examine the strategies used for the construction of self and other in the inaugural speeches of presidents Hugo Chávez Frías (Venezuela) and Inácio Lula da Silva (Brasil). The findings suggestthat: a) the speakers present themselves as the main agents of change (and improvement) in their countries; b) in their speeches, the sociopolitical crisis is explained as a result of errors in the past and the proposal of change as the only solution; c) the opponents are described in a negative form and reference to the other is direct or depersonalized; d) the strategies of polyphony, solidarity and proximity, victimization and coertion were identified as the most common persuasive tools.
Palabras clave : political speech; construction of self; construction of other.
