The program of the Spanish language course UPEL (Barquisimeto) was applied to a group of students of the subject Language and Communication in the first half of Agroindustrial Engineering at UCLA, while another group of the same semester, continued with the original program matter. The purpose was to adapt the program to UPEL future needs to develop agro-engineer their literacy skills. The study was based on reading strategies proposed by Marín (1999), and in writing developed by Parodi (2003). The research design is qualitative in Action Research in the classroom. We compared the competencies achieved by both groups, and found that the experimental group acquired metacognitive skills to self-regulate the process of literacy.
