This paper will develop general aspects related to connection, from a Cognitive Linguistics theoretical-methodological approach, in a corpus of Criminal Sentences from First Instance Court (CST). Several ways to establish connections as well as some linguistic-expository devices have been identified in these texts, in order to show that the way in which connections are selected and, above all, formulated gives indications about the forms of conceptualization that transform a “fact” into a “case”, and accounts for the contextualization processes determining the type of social interaction which is a typical feature of a discourse genre -Criminal Sentences from First Instance Court (CST)-, the knowledge structure they serve as vehicles for and the participants involved.
