In this research work different thematic and aspectual properties of the semi-copula quedar and quedarse are analysed. It is shown that they are not two different and separate lexical items but only one root whose syntactic context imposes thematic and eventive structures. Using Vendler´s (1967) and Pustejovsky´s (1995) aspectual classification of predicates, a description is given of the aspectual possibilities of the semi-copula showing that it can appear both in locative and in transitional structures. The clitic se can appear in both cases, the claim being that it is related to the notion of internal cause (Levin y Rappaport Hovav 1995). As regards the analysis, Travis´s proposal (2005) of articulated vPs has been used. It is worth noting that this work offers a syntactic proposal as a lexical perspective would not allow to capture syntactic generalization in terms of syntactic structure, especially, the functional /eventive structure which is responsible of thematic structure.
