JAIMEZ, Rita e MAURERA CABALLERO, Sandra. Lingüística - Análisis del Discurso Caracas es Caracas y lo demás1... 2. Núcleo [online]. 2006, vol.18, n.23, pp.51-82. ISSN 0798-9784.
This study aims to analyse the discursive strategies used by Valentina Qu i n t e ro in her book Guía Turística (2004-2005), in order to reach a second objective: to reveal the authors communicative intention. This research is based on the principles of discourse analysis (DA), which maintain that there are no neutral texts but that in any kind of discourse, certain ideologies have a determinant function that can affect the audiences (or the readers) sociocognitive schemata. In order to discover which ideology is found in this text, certain expressions and meanings of discourse have been analyzed that g i ve rise to inferences which permit the reader to construct judgments regarding the various regions described in the book. One of the conclusions points out that the author uses, as a recurrent discursive strategy, explicit statements to approve and disapprove the tours and travels that she makes in d i f f e rent geographical zones and states of Ve n ezuela, as well as hotels, restaurants and shops. But basically the author is interested in two import a n t goals: i) to awaken the curiosity of the Venezuelans for their country, and ii) that her guide may be one of the most read books in the country.
