Resumen

LARRAURI GIAMPORCARO, Ainoa. Non-Conventional Exercises for the Translation Class: A Pedagogical Proposal. Núcleo [online]. 2008, vol.20, n.25, pp.313-333. ISSN 0798-9784.

In my experience as a translation teacher I have become aware of the fact that students -especially when they are starting to learn the translation trade- usually have difficulties related to their excessive focus on linguistic aspects and their neglect of the discursive or communicative aspects of the translation source and target situations. Besides, I consider that the exercises traditionally carried out in most of the translation classes at the School of Modern Languages of the Universidad Central de Venezuela are probably not sufficient to tackle this problem. In this documentary research work, I first go through the description that the interpretative and the functionalist translation theories make of the translation process, and analyze what different experts on translation didactics have said about the skills needed for translation and about the ideal focus of translation training. Then, I present a pedagogical proposal for the field of translation didactics in the form of a compilation of non-conventional exercises that have been proposed by experts of this area and which I suggest be applied in translation training in order to overcome the identified deficiencies.

Palabras clave : discursive competence; pedagogical proposal; non-conventional exercises; translation training.
