POLITO, Francesca. Allusions to the Dantesque Universe in the Literary Critiques on José Antonio Ramos Sucre’s Work . Núcleo [online]. 2009, vol.21, n.26, pp.255-276. ISSN 0798-9784.

The life and work of Dante, particularly the Comedy and The New Life, are to Ramos Sucre a quarry of images that leaves cultural imprints and resonances throughout his writings. Since the poet’s death in 1930, many critics have inquired into that spiritual and aesthetic family relation. In this article, we review their contributions, rather superficial at the beginning, but increasingly revealing of new means and critical visions. These contributions refer to the evocative inventions of Dante, by analogy or by contrast, to style and taste inclinations and to central and recurring motifs (the woman, death, evil, pain, journey, exile, flight…) in the works of the Cumaná born poet, Ramos Sucre.

Palavras-chave : literary criticism; poetry; Middle Ages; symbol.
