ARROYAVE TOBON, Alejandro y QUIROZ HERRERA, Gabriel. Didactic Considerations for Teaching the Translation of Noun Phrases with Multiple Premodification from English into Spanish. Núcleo [online]. 2012, vol.24, n.29, pp.179-215. ISSN 0798-9784.
Understanding and translating noun phrases with multiple premodification from English into Spanish is not always an easy task for translation students. Since this structure has a high frequency in specialized texts and is a translation problem, a case study (Hernández Sampieri et al., 2010) was carried out. Tests were applied to the experimental and the control group in order to determine the difficulties that translation students face to limit noun phrases with complex premodification in English, identify the noun head, analyze the complete structure, and translate it into Spanish. Likewise, the use of didactic strategies was evaluated to determine if they would help students to improve their performance. The results show that translation students have difficulties not only in identifying these structures but also in analyzing and translating them. By applying a set of strategies, the experimental group improved their performance. Finally, some didactic strategies used in the experiment are described.
