Resumen

DIAZ LARENAS, Claudio et al. A Case Study of the Beliefs of English Teacher Trainees about their Perceived Self-Efficacy and Language Teaching. Núcleo [online]. 2013, vol.25, n.30, pp.41-67. ISSN 0798-9784.

This case study aims at identifying the beliefs about perceived self-efficacy and English teaching of a group of 45 teacher trainees who are in fourth year of their EFL teacher education programme in Chile. The techniques used to collect data were a Likert scale and a semi-structured interview. The data were analyzed through inferential statistics and content analysis. For the quantitative analysis of the Likert scale on self-efficacy, the SPSS software was used and the coding and categorization of the qualitative data were conducted by means of the Atlas.ti software. The results indicate that participants hold beliefs about teaching along the lines of both traditional and communicative approaches. Regarding their self-efficacy beliefs, pre-service teachers reveal a positive attitude towards their own skills to achieve the necessary actions that can lead to the long sought classroom results.

Palabras clave : self-efficacy; English; beliefs; teaching; teacher education.
