ABSTRACT In this short essay a hermeneutic analogy is attempted between the positivistic ideas of A. Comte, H. Spencer and those of the Mexican pedagogue M. Flores. This educationist, taking into account the proposals of the two former European theorists, was able to put forward an original philosophical reflection which was assumed by the regime of Porfirio Díaz (1877-1880 and 1884-1911) at the turn of the twentieth century. This government`s educational project was based on the perspective of the so-called integral education which proved both practical and useful for governmental politics in which individuals were expected to serve the state, a sort of protective sole-provider. By comparatively reviewing the postulates of both the three educational theorists mentioned above and current educational policies of the Mexican state, a continuity of the older principles, but now with a higher number of objectives and modalities, has been perceived
