It is important to have in mind that children’s disease tends to have an influence not only on the psychological well being of the young patient but on that of the family as well. This paper focuses on the need to provide a clear overview of those factors related to the kid’s sickness and hospitalization. The impact such factors have on family functioning is analyzed and parent presence at the hospital as a reassuring mechanism is examined. Then some options and possible solutions to cope with undesired consequences are considered. Finally, some research results from a study involving parents conducted in a Pediatrics center in Salamanca (Spain) are presented.
