CARMONA RODRIGUEZ, Miriam A.. Transdisciplinarity: A Proposal For Venezuelas Higher Educati. Rev. Ped [online]. 2004, vol.25, n.73, pp.59-70. ISSN 0798-9792.
The lack of an updated legislation coordinating both governmental policies and curricular changes being promoted by our countrys institutions of higher learning, may have become an impediment to the necessary changes being sought at this level of education. As a consequence, it seems necessary to open avenues for an open discussion in which new perspectives and alternatives are presented. These alternatives, although innovative, must be directed towards the betterment of this subsystem, and more attuned to the needs of society. In this context, the role of Pedagogy seems crucial in times of transdisciplinarity. Pedagogy, understood as "educational praxis" (Molins, 1995) permeates all educational concerns in general and higher education in particular, a key sign of its interdisciplinarity. Educational praxis taking place in Venezuela s higher education should be focused on pertinence, collaboration and solidarity, moving away from current practice based on curricular rigidity, incapability to respond to social demands, a narrow epistemological view, discipline-centered and concreteness-oriented approaches to reality, and a trend towards specialization without regard for social context. In this sense, a proposal is advanced: 1. to deepen a multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary system, 2. to update legislation pertaining higher education, 3. to reassume the crucial role of Pedagogy in our institutions of higher learning.
