LACUEVA, Aurora. Escaping from the routine: ideas and actions of integral teaching trainees in/on their natural science classes. Rev. Ped [online]. 2010, vol.31, n.88, pp.61-96. ISSN 0798-9792.

This study aims to describe and discuss the ideas and actions of students of Integral Teaching through their professional practice reports in the area of Science and Technology (S & T). Eighteen reports from a group total of forty-three were intentionally selected, looking for as much diversity of ideas and activities as possible. We proceeded to analyze the documents qualitatively. The repeated examination of the texts allowed us to determine the types of activities present and to extract the jus tifications offered along with the assertions that expressed pedagogical-didactic ideas. These ideas were placed in thematic categories. The results show that the students developed a variety of didactic activities, allowing us to classify the reports in terms of 2 traditional, 12 moderately innovative and 4 innovative. However, activi ties pertaining to the area of S & T were scarce. Two-thirds of the students presented some justification for their activities, the main ones being: carrying out pro - ces ses that promote learning, achievement of interests and/or participation, and content learning. The four dominant themes in the ideas presented by the student teachers were: importance of affective aspects of teaching, rejection of traditional routines, concern as to student discipline and positive evaluation of pupils. Two of the reports were studied as a whole to complement the analytical study with one that was more synthetic. What was found points to an emphasis on the quality of school work which should continue to be encouraged by the university institution and by action taken by governments in schools.
