The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of an Environmental Educative Programme (EEPR), which was based on the principles of Vygotsky theory (1976) and communitie`s educational needs about participating in sustainable development for improving their quality of life. The methodology was based on Rojas, Mercado, Olmos and Weber (1994) recommendations.The participants belonged to three community groups formed according to their educational need selected by themselves from a list previously done by them. We used a questionnaire, a check list and a binnacle for collecting the data which was analyzed in a qualitative way. The main results of the EEPR applied were: (a) improving the community level of conceptual and procedure knowledge for participating in sustainable development for increase their quality of life; (b) social empowerment; (c) developing participative research projects for immediately community benefits.; (d) improving their competences for leadership and working together abilities and (e) they reached a better perception of their environment and its problems, mainly caused by their own activities.
