The access of people to information through technology does not mean more knowledge or achieving higher levels of learning. It is neccessary to aim technology under the service of student learning. In this sense technology would be a mean and not an end in itself. This paper discuss six aspects: meaning of virtual environment of teaching and learning; technological implementation; interactivity; evaluation pedagogical conception.All this aspects constitute a theoretical starting point relevant in evaluating the adventages and limitations of the virtual learning environment in order not only to make correctives, but to make valid statements about the efecctiveness of the proccess of teaching and learning under virtual conditions.
