Resumen

SANS, Juan Francisco. Teresa Carreño: An exceptional venezuelan female composer of the XIX century. Revista de Investigación [online]. 2010, vol.34, n.69, pp.17-37. ISSN 1010-2914.

The musical historiography has seen in Teresa Carreño one of the greatest pianist of all times. But this aspect of her life has cast a shadow over her important production as a composer. The present study tries to vindicate her work in the context of feminine composition of XIX the century, starting with an examination of the musical value of her compositions and the comparison of her work with those of other great female composers of her time. In this sense, this article devotes to deconstruct the prevailing discourse in specialized literature which discriminated Teresa Carreño not only because it is salon music, but because it is the work of a woman.

Palabras clave : Teresa Carreño; feminine composition; genere musicology; XIX century music; salon music.
