Resumen

FERNANDEZ, Rafael; DE GUGLIELMO, Zoraya  y  MENENDEZ, Andrea. Tissue culture and genetic transformation of coffee. Revista de Investigación [online]. 2010, vol.34, n.71, pp.57-84. ISSN 1010-2914.

Review about coffee, one of the most important plants on the world, highlighting the in vitro culture techniques and genetic engineering aimed at its improvement, in order to obtain highly productive cultivars resistant to biotic (diseases and pests) or abiotic stress. In this sense, it has managed to establish efficient in vitro regeneration systems, particularly for indirect somatic embryogenesis from leaf sections, emphasize the potential advantage of secondary somatic embryogenesis on the regeneration of transgenic plants. Genetic transformation has been achieved by both direct and indirect methods, to stand out in field the production of plants transformed with the cry gene, which confers resistance to attack leaf miner. In this context, this work will be of great help to breeders in coffee, may well be more effective in achieving new cultivars with agronomically important characteristics

Palabras clave : Coffee; genetic transformation; in vitro cultur.
