The solid waste handling coming from hospitals (SWH) is an occupational risk factor. In Venezuela, health centers do not have a manual of biosafety for their management. The present investigation discuss some social and health Venezuelan policies, about SWH, specifically the University Hospital Complex Ruiz y Páez, Bolívar City, Bolívar state. In this health center, the Decree 2.218 Rules for classification and waste handling coming from health establishments level of fulfillment was determined. Through inspections carried out in random way at the different hospital service area referred, using tables of verification, demonstrating routes, schedules of cleaning and routines of the personnel. Besides to discuss the legal frame related to the DSH. The studied Hospital only fulfills 21% of the legal norm. It is required of a manual with an order of procedures for the waste handling, norms of biosafety, and the pursuit and registry of nosocomios. From that information obtained it is necessary to institute a new collection and final disposal system of produced medical waste. For the establishment and achievement of this system, all the hospital community must be incorporated and trained
