The teaching of science has been the subject of discussion between supporters of rote learning and discovery learning. There are few studies comparing the effects of both types of education in university students. The study evaluates the effectiveness of discovery learning in students of science. We designed and conduced a workshop framed the issue of biotechnology applications, according to a experimental design with pre-test application, development and implementation workshop the post-test. t-student statistic can indicate the effectiveness of the method, which suggests teaching strategies to encourage learning by discovery of biotechnology in university students
