Resumen

FIGUEROA MEZA, Rosa Aura  y  SIMON PEREZ, José Rafael. Planning, writing and revising: a methodology for written composition. An experience with students from Institute Pedagogical of Caracas (IPC). Revista de Investigación [online]. 2011, vol.35, n.73, pp.119-148. ISSN 1010-2914.

Diverse studies report the difficulties university level students go through when writing. In the light of such reality, we explored the use of planning, writing and revision as steps in a methodology for written composition. In this exploratory and descriptive field research, the sample participants were 70 students from IPC, taking three different subjects, in the academic terms 2006-I and 2006-II. We carried out three experiences, and their results imply: a) guiding the writing process strategically: it should be divided into three stages -planning, writing and revising- as recurring steps of the process itself, besides the use of general questions; b) 95% of the sample participants identify the receiver of the texts, but have trouble to determine the purpose of the text, and to establish the corresponding coherence; c) when planning, contents are far more relevant than the text structure; d) the final text is different from the initial draft; e) coherence, cohesion, and other problems associated with textual mechanics remain.

Palabras clave : Planning; writing; revising; written composition.
