MERA MENDES, Delia y PENA, Patricia. Effects of the application of metacognitive strategies on the performance of fifth grade students to perform operations with rational numbers. Revista de Investigación [online]. 2011, vol.35, n.73, pp.311-330. ISSN 1010-2914.
The purpose was to determine the effects of a training in metacognitive strategies on operations with fractions, in fifth grade students of Basic Education, National Educational Unit located in west of Caracas. Research explanatory type field, quasi-experimental design applied to test and posttest intact groups, the sample of 78 participants divided into two and arranged in the experimental group and control. The tests were: prior knowledge on the implementation of metacognitive strategies (Panaoura & Phillipou, 2003) and a test of knowledge in operations with fractions. The differences in performance on Operations with Fractions before and after the intervention showed significant differences in favor the experimental group. This indicates the possibility of using these strategies to enhance learning.
