TOLEDO B, Valentina y FLORENTINO DE ANDREU, Adriana. Evaluate the biological and biochemical states of the microbiotic soil crust of low natural vegetation in the arid region of Quíbor, Venezuela. Revista de Investigación [online]. 2012, vol.36, n.75, pp.143-162. ISSN 1010-2914.
The objective was to evaluate the biological and biochemical states of the microbiotic soil crust of low natural vegetation, subject to natural processes of erosion in the Valley of Quíbor, state Lara. Were collected samples in the position headcut, flank and valley in two systems of gully.. The crust analyses were: pH, carbon of the microbial biomass, basal respiration, organic carbon, total carbohydrates, ecophysiological index and total nitrogen. Student’s t test carried, applied analysis of variance and topographic position and depth Scheffé test. The results showed that the presence of microbiotic soil crust on the ground generates significant differences to 5% among some topographic positions and depths on the biological and biochemical variables of soil. In conclusion, the microbiotic soil crust promote patches of fertility for soils where the gully. The acquisition of the carbon and nitrogen by organisms contributes to the balance of these elements in this arid ecosystem
