Resumen

MARQUEZ PEREZ, Efraín. The objectivist epistemological hegemony and quantitative research in the social sciences. Revista de Investigación [online]. 2013, vol.37, n.78, pp.13-50. ISSN 1010-2914.

The objectivist epistemological acquires its current configuration as a result of the process revisionist positivist view of science that developed in the early twentieth century. This epistemological debate that emerged from the natural sciences modified some classic positivist epistemological beliefs, the certainty of both scientific knowledge and scientific hypotheses, introducing the theoretical notions of temporariness, chance, uncertainty. New ideas were uncritically assumed by positivist social science of nature, not by social science based on interpretive epistemological perspective. This article argues that the objectivist epistemology legitimizes the hegemony of the quantitative paradigm in the social sciences through the empiricalanalytical approach typical of experimental model, supporting ontological, epistemological and methodological, standardization of research and the generalizability of the results.
