MAYORA CASTILLO, Isamar. Metacognitive strategies applied in reading comprehension by English I students: Case Vice-Rectorado Luis Caballero Mejías. Revista de Investigación [online]. 2013, vol.37, n.78, pp.167-191. ISSN 1010-2914.
The purpose was to characterize metacognitive strategies for reading comprehension in English I students from the UNEXPO - LCM. It was a descriptive field research, which included an analysis of the metacognitive strategies used for students who passed such a subject with high grades. The results show that every student uses these strategies during reading in English as a foreign language. The metacognitive strategies used in a higher frequency are: (a) to have conscience of the responsibility as a student, (b) to have the necessary resources, (c) to comprehend the texts easily, (d) to control the memorization process in order to modify it according to the results, and (e) to solve easily the assigned tasks related to the text content. It is recommended to motivate the reading comprehension with the use of cognitive and metacognitive strategies, to include strategies inside the programs, to incentive continuous formation of the teachers in that area.
